What is LASIK?

​

LASIK is a form of refractive laser eye surgery used to correct vision, so you no longer need to wear glasses or contact lenses. Am I a good candidate for LASIK?

The team at Beraja Medical Institute determines if you’re a good candidate for LASIK surgery during your consultation. The team considers you a good candidate if you’re between the ages of 18-40 and tired of depending on your glasses or contact lenses for daily activities, such as reading, driving, or swimming. 

During your consultation, the team also determines if you’re a good candidate for flapless vision correction surgery or one of the other laser correction surgeries performed by the experienced team.

How do I prepare for LASIK?

​

Your ophthalmologist at Beraja Medical Institute provides specific instructions on how to prepare for your LASIK surgery. You may need to stop wearing your contact lenses for 3-4 days prior to the team taking eye measurements needed for your procedure. 

The team requests you not have breakfast before your surgery and arrange to have someone drive you home after the procedure.

What happens during LASIK surgery?

​

During your LASIK surgery, your ophthalmologist creates a flap with a microblade or Femto laser. Your flap is raised, and your ophthalmologist uses a cool excimer laser to shape your cornea. Your flap is then repositioned without sutures. 

If you qualify for the flapless procedure, your ophthalmologist removes a superficial layer of your cornea before shaping it with the cool excimer laser. Your eye surgeon places a soft contact lens over your cornea for protection until your corneal tissue regenerates.

How long is recovery from LASIK surgery?

​

You can resume most of your activities the day after your LASIK surgery. However, the team recommends you avoid swimming, gardening, and construction work for two weeks.
