About Juan P. Fernandez de Catro, MD

Juan P. Fernandez de Castro M.D. is an American Board certified ophthalmologist and eye surgeon at Beraja Medical Institute in Coral Gables, Florida. He specializes in cataract refractive surgery and anterior segment diseases. After graduating from medical school at Universidad El Bosque in Colombia he trained at the University of Iowa where he completed fellowships in Molecular Ophthalmology and Ocular Pathology, then completed an internship in General Surgery, and Ophthalmology residency at the University of Louisville. Dr. Fernandez de Castro has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals and is an awarded member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and the American Medical Association, among other professional societies.


Dr. Fernandez de Castro is a compassionate physician devoted to giving the best results to his patients by offering the latest cataract, glaucoma, and pterygium surgery technology. He also uses the most advanced lasers and medications to treat glaucoma and retinal diseases.


Giving back, helping those in need, has been a passion for Dr. Fernandez de Castro. He is the President and Founder of 2020Vista, an independent non-profit organization focused on restoring vision to people in developing nations.
